Presented by Ben Archer
Teachers will learn how to address university entrance concerns, demonstrate geography’s role as a gateway subject that complements other HSC choices, and connect HSC geography to in-demand career fields. The session will provide ready-to-use scripts for common student objections and strategies for positioning geography as a strategic academic choice rather than a backup option.
About the presenter:
Ben Archer is an Associate Lecturer in Career Development at James Cook University, where he researches transitions from school to university to workforce in Regional, Remote and Rural Communities. His academic work focuses on understanding the unique challenges and opportunities students face when navigating educational and career pathways in non-metropolitan areas. Prior to joining academia, Ben served as Head of Faculty and Careers Advisor across Catholic and Independent schools in the Northern Territory, ACT and NSW for 12 years. This extensive school-based experience provides him with deep insights into student decision-making processes and the practical realities teachers face when guiding students through subject selection and career planning conversations.
A recording of the webinar will be available for fourteen (14) days following the webinar
